Make-up Tips

Many of us apply make up in the morning to help us feel and look better but by using the wrong products, or applying them incorrectly, you could be adding years to your face. Avoid these common ageing make-up mistakes with these top tips and tricks.

Heavy Foundation

It may be tempting to pile on the foundation when you're feeling tired, but it's incredibly ageing. 'Mask' like foundation settles in fine lines and can make skin look dull. Opt for an illuminating, sheer formula to bring light to the face and allow your natural complexion to shine through.

Too Much Under Eye Concealer

For many of us, dark circles rank highly on our lists of biggest beauty-problem area. Whether yours are hereditary, caused by lack of sleep or have gradually got worse with age most of us battle to hide them. However, getting heavy handed with thick concealer leads to the product settling into fine lines - making you look older than you are. Apply concealer with a brush, rather than your fingers, to distribute the product more evenly.

Powder Blusher

Powder blush can look chalky and leave skin looking dry. Keep your make-up youthful and radiant with a cream or liquid blush. Cream formulas leave a subtle sheen on the cheeks making skin look nourished and hydrated. If you are going to use powder blusher ensure that your make up is not thick/ wet underneath as it will stick and look heavy.

Heavy Eyeliner

Yes it is nice to have a little definition around the eyes but don’t get too carried away with the black eyeliner and it can be counterproductive. Avoid 'ringing' the entire eye in black eyeliner; it will make eyes look smaller and draw attention to crow’s feet and under eye circles. Instead go for a brown or navy liner on the top lid and curl lashes to open up your eyes. Shadow looks softer than liquid liner. Opt for black mascara on upper lashes and skip the bottom lash mascara altogether.

Face Powder

While powdering the nose and t-zone is a great way to minimise shine, too much face powder is incredibly ageing. It settles in fine lines and wrinkles and leaves skin looking dull, dry and dehydrated. If your skin is on the oiler side, blot with blotting papers rather than repeatedly powdering. Always concentrate on the t-zone and never powder on the cheeks or under eyes. The dewier and less matte your base is, the more youthful it looks.
